Using HDMI to connect your cable box
Many people are switching over to high definition cable
packages which necessitate changing to a new high
definition cable box. These HD cable boxes will come
with HDMI ports on the back of them. When connecting a
cable box to a home, consumers often use cables known as
HDMI cables, which is short for high definition
multimedia interface.
When switching to high definition cable, you will need
to obtain an HDMI cable. When choosing a HDMI cable you
need to consider the distance between the cable box and
your television. You might need to measure it with a
ruler or tape measure in order to select the appropriate
size. If you want to put the HDMI cable through a wall
in order to conceal it, remember to allow for a little
more cable. If you do run the cable through the wall,
you may need to obtain a receiver in order to be able to
use a remote control to operate the cable box. When
choosing to run your HDMI cable through the wall, you
need to make sure the cable you select is designed to be
run inside walls. In order to know if an HDMI cable is
appropriate for this, make sure it is rated CL2. This
rating means that it has a reduced risk of starting an
electrical fire.
Another aspect to consider when choosing an HDMI cable
is its thickness. Usually, the packaging will
specifically give the thickness of the cable in units of
AWG. The lowers the AWG number, the thicker the HDMI
cable is going to be. If you need a HDMI cable for
longer lengths, then you probably want to select an HDMI
cable rated at either 22 or 24 AWG. With the longer run,
there is chance your signal might be lost therefore the
thicker wire is better. However, if you need an HDMI
cable for lengths 15 feet and under, then an HDMI cable
with a thickness of 28 AWG will suffice.
Price should be another thing to think about. Many
experts agree that a cheaper HDMI cable works as well as
the most expensive ones. Don’t be fooled by attractive
brand name.
